15/02/2021

Bananas have been known for their properties and nutritional value for thousands of years. They probably come from Malaysia, from where they moved to India, and then to Africa, where they are still growing today. They are currently grown in Asia and Australia. In order for us to eat them, growers must pick green (unripe) fruit, put it in a cold store and load it on ships. Unfortunately, they are less tasty than when matured in a natural environment, and also have a lower nutritional value. Still, bananas are very important. They contain all the most important vitamins A, C, E, K, B, fibre, as well as minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium.

What effects can bananas have in our diet?

2. Bananas, thanks to the pectin contained in them, reduce the level of bad cholesterol, and cleanse the body of toxins, improves glucose tolerance, and therefore helps in the fight against diabetes.
3. Iron, which helps build red blood cells, helps fight anaemia.
4. Fructooligosaccharide, or prebiotic, supports the growth of good bacteria in the large intestine.
5. Antioxidants and carotenoids reduce eye problems: night blindness, cataracts, and glaucoma.
6. Bananas should be included in the diet of people with peptic ulcer disease - the soft structure does not irritate the stomach, and also neutralizes stomach acids, eliminating pain and heartburn.
7. Magnesium relaxes the muscles which helps with menstrual pain, and vitamin B6 relieves pain and regulates menstrual cycles.
