Apples can be prepared in various ways, for dry dishes and desserts. Candles were known for their health properties as early as around 6500 BC. Polish nutritionists recommend eating two apples a day, one for beauty and one for good health. The English say to eat one apple a day, and a doctor will not be needed.

What are the health benefits of apples?
1. Thanks to their fibre content, apples support bowel function. It protects against constipation and colon cancer.
2. Apples prevent atherosclerosis and protect against heart attacks. This is due to fibre, which reduces the absorption of cholesterol.
3. Apples have a low glycaemic index (38), which means they can be eaten with mild diabetes. The fibre in this fruit helps regulate blood sugar levels.
4. Raw apples, thanks to quercetin, can prevent the appearance of cataracts.
5. The pectin contained in apples cleanses the body of toxins. Heavy metals (cobalt and lead) are excreted from the body thanks to fibre, which binds them into insoluble salts.

  • The boiled grated apple is used in natural medicine for diarrhoea in children and for indigestion and peptic ulcer disease in adults.
  • Inflammations of the mouth and throat can be eliminated by rinsing them with apple peel tea.
  • A mixture of apple cider vinegar with honey and boiled water replenishes potassium in the body, which inhibits infection and improves digestion.
  • Scientists from the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University have proved that the flavonoids contained in apple reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
  • Chinese scientists have shown that the oligosaccharides in apples kill up to 46% of colon cancer cells.
  • Half of the vitamin C in an apple is found under the skin. The richest with this vitamin are ripe, small, and sour apples that grow on the sunny side of the tree.
